And then it came for the emergency services. Police, doctors, nurses, and so on. These clusters were still appearing in the news before being redacted, or on social media, only to be reported as fake later on. Those in power denied anything was happening, but it was happening in front of our eyes. These were
our neighbours, our friends, our families. Soon enough, it got efficient. It occupied maternity wards, military bases, and prisons. Big Business was in on it all as well. It was as if all their power had been flattened. Now we had a new enemy, though I think by this point it had already won. We knew it was
happening, but no big outlet was telling us. We either witnessed it first-hand, or turned to Internet forums.

It only got worse from there. Some obscure theorists claim it was a mix of toxoplasmosis / parasites and “doublespeak”. The media massively fuelled this. sedate the so-called lottery winners into eventual torture.

But this is all history now. She only got smarter, more efficient, greedier. Half of
the population seemed to be getting weekly pain treatment. It had to be pain. She said those nerves were the best ones. So be it. Those who could adapt, did adapt. Myself included. Now I operate whatʼs known as a “nerve farm”. Tens of thousands of intact, frozen nervous systems, suspended across steel frames. Ready to be fed into a food processor. The above is only one account of the events that led to this new age. Most accounts follow a similar story: some life form developed by artificial intelligence that became the new apex predator, and much like artificial intelligence, kept on getting more efficient at what it did in order to survive. New theologies emerged, with narratives around how pain is good, a part of
life, something to be embraced. Billions complied with it. The rest of us either serve her, or are executed. The next phase is finding a way to set up fully fledged human farms. Some say
the humans might be synthetically generated with some sort of machine, in order to produce bigger, better humans, ready for harvest. We are all excited for this next phase, but for a few completely unrelated reasons…
